We are excited to announce that Sharon Prentis has been appointed as Deputy Director of the Racial Justice Unit. This is a hugely important area of work and we are delighted that Sharon will be bringing her innumerable skills, expertise, and wisdom to this new role and the work of the Racial Justice Unit.
Sharon is a uniquely gifted leader, theologian, missioner and pastor with experience in many parts of the church. She has brought a great deal of wisdom and understanding in supporting individuals to live out their calling with confidence and humility as well as supporting inclusion and diversity within the life of the college and its role in the wider Church. We rejoice at what she will bring to the work of the Racial Justice Unit in seeking to make important and tangible steps to address the Church’s call as the richly varied and multi-faceted community of Christ.
Sharon writes:
“I am profoundly grateful to have served as Dean of Ministry at St Mellitus College. My vocation has always been rooted in the desire to see people flourish, particularly in leadership and ministry. It has been a privilege and joy to see women and men come into a relationship with God through the work of SMC and, in doing so, to make the kingdom more evident. As someone who has lived and worked in a range of diverse communities and organisations, my heart is to see the Church embrace the whole people of God so that everyone can fully participate in what God is calling them to be at this time. As Christ's followers, we must address racial injustice and promote reconciliation. I look forward to pursuing this through the work of the Racial Justice Unit."
Revd Russell Winfield (Dean) writes:
“The college has hugely benefitted from Sharon’s pastoral and visionary giftings the passion she has brought to her role as Dean of Ministry and we are extremely grateful for the contribution she has made and excited to see her gifts deployed into the work the Church of England is doing in the important area of racial justice. We look forward to continuing to work with Sharon in her new capacity.”
Sharon’s final day in the College will be 31st March 2023. Please do join us in praying for Sharon and her husband Calvert in this season of transition.
