Matt is tutor and lecturer in ethics at St Mellitus College. He is married to Esther, a vicar, and they have two children. He enjoys traveling to visit family in Africa. He loves playing cricket and still occasionally bowls straight.

Matt is continuing to engage with Jacques Ellul research. He has recently run a new MA module on Christian Ethics in a Digital Age and inputs on this area in various ways across the life of the college.

I am interested in the interface between technology and theology, both in terms of offering a coherent theological account of technology (the subject of my doctorate on Jacques Ellul) and of exploring specific ethical questions arising from rapid technological development e.g. the use of the smartphone, the changing patterns of work and communication, the culture of surveillance, the rise of artificial intelligence. I am also passionate about the place of the local church in forming our hearts and our minds for faithful living.
