At the heart of every pathway we offer is our St Mellitus College ethos —theological study embedded in a local church or ministry context. Whatever route you go down your training will reflect creatively on this: studying in the classroom while serving in your community.
But because no two students are the same we provide a variety of different routes and programmes. Some people are called to train for ordination in the Church of England, which we offer in both full-time and part-time routes. Some of our ordinands study for a diploma or BA degree, while others join our MA track.
Others in our community study theology independently. We welcome students who are beginning their theological journey on our bespoke introductory course, as well as others pursuing diplomas, undergraduate or masters degrees. We also have a Licensed Lay Ministry route, delivered in partnership with the Dioceses of London and Chelmsford.
Read on to explore the different routes at St Mellitus College and find the right path to begin your theology journey with us.
Ordination Training
Training men and women for ordination in the Church of England is at the heart of what St Mellitus College does. We are hugely excited to partner with you as you grow into the priest God is calling you to be.

St Mellitus College offers a range of programmes to suit anyone interested in theological study. Our first-rate teaching staff will stretch you academically and deepen your faith.
Peter Stream
The Peter Stream exists to redress the most significant underrepresentation in ordained leadership in the Church of England — ethnic, social, educational — and so is open to candidates from those demographics.
Caleb Stream
The Caleb Stream is a discernment and training pathway towards Church of England ordination for mature lay leaders with leadership experience, enabling them to train for the diaconate within one year.
Licensed Lay Ministry
We are committed to train and equip lay people to play their part in the ministry and mission of Christ’s church.
"I get to explore what ministry and mission look
like in the community I've been part of
