St Mellitus College is proud to launch Future Generations Training in partnership with the Church of England’s 30k Project.
Future Generations Training offers bursaries to cover all course fees for students taking a 2-year Diploma in Higher Education with a youth or children’s ministry focus. To qualify for this bursary students will need to be working in a children’s or youth ministry placement in a Church of England Parish or Fresh Expression context, alongside their academic study.
Dr. Mark Scanlan, Lead Youth Ministry and Undergraduate Tutor, Lecturer in Theology and Youth Ministry, "This is wonderful opportunity to invest in those called to work with the future generations and to ensure that those working with children and young people are trained to a high standard both theologically and in practical ministry skills. Future Generation training is ideal for those stepping into this work for the first time as well as those who are already working with children and young people but have not trained to this level."
To undertake the training students will need to attend St Mellitus College’s London centre each Monday of term time for a full day of accredited teaching as well as set aside 1 – 2 days a week for further study. Alongside this, students need to be active in a youth or children’s ministry focussed placement role for around 12 – 24 hours per week. The combination of academic study and ministry experience together is a key dynamic of the training. St Mellitus will work in partnership with placements and placement supervisors to ensure the best training experience for students.
The academic aspect of Future Generations Training is part of the Common Awards Theology, Ministry and Mission programme under Durham University meaning students will achieve a high-quality academic award.
