With a remarkable career as a renowned theologian, Rt Revd Rowan Williams brings a wealth of wisdom and expertise to St Mellitus College. His contributions to the field of theology and his influential voice within the church have rightly garnered international recognition, and it is wonderful that within our community we get to learn from one of the worlds leading Christian scholars.

Serving as the 104th bishop of the See of Canterbury from 2002 to 2012, Bishop Rowan played a pivotal role in the history of the Church of England. Following this, he assumed the position of the 35th Master of Magdalene College, University of Cambridge. He holds the title of Honorary Professor of Contemporary Christian Thought at the University of Cambridge.

During his tenure as the McDonald Professor of Christian Theology at St Mellitus College from 2016 to 2020, he made significant contributions to theological education, inspiring students and fellow academics. His exceptional scholarship extends beyond theology, as he is also a talented poet and translator of poetry. His published works cover a diverse range of subjects, including comprehensive studies on Arius, Teresa of Avila, and Sergii Bulgakov. Dr. Williams's writings span various fields, from philosophy and spirituality to ethics, social issues, and his notable expertise in early and patristic Christianity. Furthermore, he actively engages with contemporary cultural and interfaith matters.
